Organic Farming

The forum is committed to popularize and promote organic farming in the potential areas, keeping in view the four basic principles of organic farming, namely - health, care, fairness and ecology (environment). There is absolute need of mass awareness about the potentials of organic farming to farmers, consumers, civil society and to the nation as a whole. Integration of different components of farming, viz., crops, livestock, horticulture, forestry, pastures and grasslands into one unit makes the system as sustainable one with no external inputs. Misconceptions about the yield losses, crop failure due to pests and diseases or water stress, arise only when the aforesaid farm components are taken up in isolation. Now the society is fully convinced of the safety and good quality (nutritional, taste, colour, flavour) of food produced by organic practices. Is such farm produce available in sufficient quantities in the market? No, because several bottlenecks - technological (production), administrative (policies and will of the governments), marketing, certification (of produce) and security of the organic farmers are not appropriately addresses.

Therefore, in the first instance, the organization intends to demonstrate the organic production technologies to Organic Farmers Groups in the district Kangra of HP, make the farmers groups aware of the nitty-gritty of organic farming (ICS, PGS, organic produce certification) and also facilitate the marketing of organic produce.

To popularize organic branded products in the market, the Government intends to establish Organic Certification Agencies, and the forum may add up Organic Certification also as one of the component activity. Global Certification, Teh. Palampur, Postal Index Number 176061 is Farm Technocrat's Forum sister concern.

Purpose : Conventional farming practices are posing various health and environmental hazards. Continuous and indiscriminate use of chemical pesticides, fungicides and fertilizers, genetically modified seed materials, use of heavy machinery are some of the causes for such hazards. In order to overcome these problems, the association of retired agricultural technologists from various institutions have decided to form a certification agency to achieve the undernoted objectives
